Here are some hints to help you get the most out of your product.
Maintenance - Battery Powered Vehicles
The Peg Perego battery powered vehicles are almost maintenance free however it is very important to take care of your batteries to keep the vehicle running smoothly. Here are some tips on how to get the most from your batteries:
Before using the batteries for the first time, recharge them for 24 hours. Never recharge the batteries for more than 24 hours at a time, or less than 12 hours. Recharging for more than 24 hours consecutively will begin to damage the battery cells, and short recharging times will decrease the life of the batteries.
Do not store the batteries in extreme cold or hot temperatures. If the battery begins to swell or shrink, this is an indication that it has been exposed to damaging conditions.
Do not rest the battery directly on concrete while recharging. This will drain the battery power.
The more often the battery is used, the longer it will last. Using the batteries once or twice a year will actually shorten the lifespan of the battery.
Recharge the battery at the end of every day that it is used, even if it was only used for 20 minutes. The battery should never be completely drained of power. If the batteries are not being used for a long period, recharge them at least once a month for 16 hours.
Never push the vehicle. This will damage the gears and may cause the motor to seize. To transport the vehicle, lift the drive wheels off the ground and push it like a wheel barrow.
Applying a coat of car wax, such as Armour-All, will protect the colour in the plastic and help prevent it from fading.
Quick Troubleshooting Tips
If the batteries aren't holding a charge:
Make sure that the recharger is plugged firmly into the wall outlet. If it is hanging out even slightly, it may not be making contact and your batteries won't get charged. We recommend plugging the charger into an extension cord and laying it on a flat surface to avoid having it fall or accidentally pulled out of the outlet.
Ensure that the outlet is not connected to a circuit that shuts off when you turn off the light switch.
Try charging your batteries for 24 hours uninterrupted. After 24 hours of charging the batteries will have their maximum charge. We do not recommend 24 hour charging on a regular basis.
The batteries may need to be replaced as a result of age, storing conditions, or infrequent use.
The charger may have stopped working and needs to be replaced.
If the recharger light comes on shortly after recharging has started:
If your battery pack has a fuse, check if it is burnt out and replace if necessary. Check to make sure the battery is firmly connected to the recharger BEFORE plugging the recharger into the outlet. If the battery pack hasn't been used in a while, try leaving it on charge for 12 - 18 hours and then unplug it for 12 hours and repeat. If nothing changes, your battery pack may need to be replaced. Bring the battery pack AND recharger to a service center for testing.
If the vehicle will not work at all:
Check the fuse in your battery. If the fuse is burnt out, the battery will not power the vehicle and won't recharge. The fuse is the same style as is used in cars; when the thin metal bar in the fuse is broken, then it needs to be replaced. For 1 speed vehicles replace with a 30 amp fuse, for 2 speed vehicles replace with a 40 amp fuse.
NOTE: Some batteries have a self-resetting resistor instead of a fuse and will automatically reset after approximately 1 minute.
For 2 speed vehicles that will only operate on high speed:
Lift the drive wheels off the ground and check if both drive wheels turn when the gas pedal is pushed. If only 1 wheel turns, check to make sure that there are two wires connected to the motor on the opposite wheel. When repluging the wires on to the motor be sure that both wheels are turning in the same direction. If they are not, reverse the wires on one of the motors.
NOTE: A 1 speed vehicle is only supposed to have 1 wheel drive.
If the vehicle will ONLY operate in REVERSE, or ONLY operate in SLOW speed:
You may require a new switch. Contact your nearest Peg Perego service centre.
Maintenance - Peg Perego Strollers and Carriages
Peg Perego strollers and carriages require lubrication every 3 - 4 months depending on how often they are used in rain or snow. All moving parts should be lubricated with a light grade oil on a regular basis. This includes wheel suspensions, opening and closing mechanisms, and joints and hinges. When parts first start to stiffen or squeek they should be lubricated immediately. Putting it off may cause more costly damage.
With the carriage style frames, periodically remove the wheels and lubricate the axels with Vaseline.
The upholstery may stain and fade over time. To keep it looking its best you should remove the upholstery and hand wash in cold water with a mild detergent. Lay flat to dry. It is not recommended to put the upholstery in a dryer as this may cause it to shrink and washing machines may cause the filling to become lumpy or the seams may start to separate.
Quick Troubleshooting Tips
If the stroller is difficult to steer:
Make sure the wheels closest to you (the back wheels) are locked to prevent them from swivelling and that the wheels furthest from you (the front wheels) are unlocked. Similar to a car, the front wheels do the steering while the back wheels remain straight. If the handlebar is reversible make sure to lock and unlock the appropriate wheels each time you reverse the handle. Do not unlock all 4 sets of wheels at the same time.
For easier steering on rough or uneven surfaces, try locking all the wheels to prevent them from swivelling.
If the stroller is pulling to one side:
Lubricate the wheel housing and suspension. If one side is spinning more freely than the other it will cause the stroller to pull to the side when pushing even on flat surfaces. If this doesn't solve the problem the vertical axel may be bent. This can be caused by hitting a curb or closing the trunk on the wheel housing. Contact an authorized service centre for assistance.
Remember: Never force anything!
If it has to be forced something is wrong, stop immediately and look for any obstructions.
If the problem isn't visible contact an authorized Peg Perego repair centre.
Continuing to apply force may cause severe damage.
